I know a secret ...
KENT FAMILY CIRCLE DRIVE IN
April 15th, 2020
Shailah and I have been doing a lot of "cruzin'" around, ever since she obtained her drivers license. Some days it is just around town and others to new spots. Once in awhile we go back to an old new place to enjoy it all over again.
Today was one of those days.
Destination: The Family Drive In - Kent, Washington
Shailah and I both had different memories of this little burger joint. Hers more fresh from yesterday. Mine older from a 100 Worlds gone. Away.
When I was growing up, I would spend from Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon at Vikki and Bob's house in Seattle. The drive from Redmond always seemed like such a long one. Redmond. The place I called home.
It was rare but on whatever days and for whatever the reasons Bob would be nice and we would drive into Kent to this little burger place. Then it was: The Arctic Circle.
Genzer, Joe and Myself would always get milkshakes.
I mean really, before the dipping of a fry into a Frosty was a thing ... we were doing it our own way.
It was always hard to decide if the perfectly cooked potato should be covered in a frozen treat or this amazing "Secret Sauce" that was only sold here. Most of the time it was 5 fries cold to one in the dip because for some crazy ass reason each of us were only allowed 1 little plastic container of the faded red stuff. Seriously. The sh*t was .5 cents for one. It wasn't like we were poor or anything. It was nothing to do a road trip to Canada just to get a Slurpee and drive back. So the .5 cent thing kinda threw me. It still does to this day.
Back to the story, it always seemed to be night when we would go there. I remember, we liked sitting with the back windows down and hanging out looking at the stars while eating our fries in the smallest bites, savoring each one and not dropping the tiniest bit of anything.
It was a nice memory that I walked down the lane to recall today while we enjoyed the same delicious food as I did back all those years ago.
The name has changed.
The sauce containers are much bigger now but the building still makes me smile.
Maybe that is because I know what the "Secret Sauce" was/is and I can have gallons of it anytime I want and not have to pay the extra Nickle for it anymore.
Kazz 💋
